Welcome to Hens and Hearts

I think the idea of this company started in the back of my mind years ago, when I would be deep in conversations with random people, sharing tidbits of knowledge I’ve collected over the years, and they would ask if I had a website. People wanted to know more. They wanted to see it and understand what it was all about; the farm, the food, the gardens, the Farmacy, a deeper understanding of it all. This kept happening, so naturally, my mind would expand to the future.

Years have gone by since my homestead began in 2020. One rabbit, two horses, and some dogs has turned into 4 rabbits, two horses, some dogs, meat turkey, 40 chickens, 22 ducks, and cats. Over the course of those years, I was left to my own devices as my son’s severe head to toe eczema and anaphylactic food allergies were impacting his daily life. With no solutions to be found from medical professionals, I began learning about healing, the way it used to be done, the way food used to be grown. It was time to dive in…

My relationship with modern medicine has been a rocky one. I trusted fully in the beginning, because it was what I was supposed to do. I did not know there was another way. Doctors talked at me, throwing prescriptions and topicals our way. And we tried. I was willing to give anything a chance to fix the daily trauma my son experienced, but it was all a band-aid. The problems persisted, then more would come because of the side effects of the medications. There are some parts of medicine and healthcare that I will never understand, and I will never pretend to. I will leave certain things up to the professionals. But when it comes to food and wellness, that is my hill to die on.

I spent from 2020-2024 learning as much as I could about farming and gardening. I also had another son that presented with the same issues my older one had when it came to foods, but this time I was prepared. By then I had solved my older son’s severe eczema and successfully reintroduced over 100 foods back into his diet by healing his microbiome and gut imbalances. I spent 6 months on an elimination diet while nursing my new baby, with only a few foods deemed safe for his healing. It was all worth it. Presently, my older son has 9 anaphylactic food allergies, and his eczema is managed and under control. My youngest has 1 anaphylactic allergy and sensitive skin. Now I look inward before seeking medical help or advice, for anything and everything. I know what needs to be done and I trust myself fully. I trust the garden to give me the solution, the food to fix the problem. Not the band-aids. There is always a solution and most of the time, you can solve it yourself.

So here we are, in July of 2026. This is the year it all started making sense…

My life has always been busy, because my mind is busy. Label it if you want but seeking work and keeping busy was the name of my game. I honestly found it impossible to relax, and I was fed off of the idea that the more work I was doing, the more validated I would feel. Such a sick concept. I think it came from societal pressure; to be valid you must work hard. But underneath there were so many other nuances that were unseen. All the little things that I was supposed to be doing while simultaneously doing everything else. Doing and doing and doing.

Then it all imploded in the best way possible. My mind said that I wasn’t getting it completely right. I had the right idea. I needed something to keep me busy, but it wasn’t about looking extrinsically. The validation I needed was supposed to be intrinsic. Less doing and more being. It has always been here all along. This need to be. I felt it long ago and lost it somewhere along the way. But now it is different. It is back and better than ever!

And that is how my dreams of Reiki began. The pull into the unknown. Late Winter 2026, I walked into my first Reiki session and had to ask the provider what Reiki even was. I had no idea, no prior knowledge, no preconceived notion. The only thing I knew was that I was in a great place mentally, emotionally, and physically before I walked in. Like I knew it was right where I was supposed to be. Weirdly enough, when my session began, she picked up on that. She said she couldn’t feel any imbalances or pain, and that my energy was “really great”. Meanwhile my eyes were closed, and I was experiencing a full-blown lava lamp light tripping experience behind my forehead, like in front of my eyes. I was hooked. I felt so good. Relaxed and calm, a feeling I’ve wanted to feel for so long. I would have spent all my money going back weekly to chase that feeling. I saw continent like shapes morphing into one another in a blue light with yellow edges. I was sleeping while awake. I was tingling and could feel buzzing inside my legs. It was blissful and Zen, tranquil even. I had to figure out how to attain it for myself, a solution, just like I’ve always done. Better yet, I wanted everyone to feel this relaxed if they sought to. So began my Reiki Practitioner journey. Months of reading and studying, classes and courses, mediations, practicing on myself and others, sometimes fighting self-doubt and sabotage, and sending Reiki energy to elderly and health compromised both physically near and far, it became time to open myself up even more.

Now, because I released myself from the constant need of always doing, I exist in a world that demands me just to be. Once I allowed myself the intrinsic validation of just being, the thoughts in my mind only became louder. And not in a way where I have a pounding headache and it’s pulsing loud all the time, quite the contrary. I can hear everything. Better yet, when I close my eyes, I can see it. Colors and pictures, faces, words, flowers, lights, animals, signs and messages, and so much more. My dreams are more vivid. I’ve seen my grandparents again. I’ve been able to connect friends to people I see or hear that exist in as Spirits. I know things and I trust my intuition more now than ever before. I am living with this energy in the forefront of my mind, in every decision I make and all that I do. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not perfect. I still struggle with this concept at times because life presents us with challenges, but I know I have solutions waiting for me.

I hope you’ll find some peace here in this journal. Your journey has led you here and so maybe you’ll be able to take some time and exist in the present moment without doing, allowing yourself just to be.

Until next time,

Stephanie
